Creative Thinker with an Entrepreneurial Spirit

At 13, I decided to become a professional writer. By then I had been publishing my own little books of short stories for years so nobody raised an eyebrow when I announced my future career path. My engineer-father made a halfhearted attempt to sway me in his direction, but mostly to soothe his conscience in case I couldn’t make a living.

Journalism school (Boston University followed by a grad stint at Syracuse) led to corporate copywriting jobs in energy and insurance. I loved the work. Researching. Interviewing. Writing. Collaborating. Eventually, though – scores of brochures, newsletters, white papers and video scripts later – I grew restless. My curious mind wanted to explore different industries, impact more companies.

So, I packed up my degree and experience, said farewell to a secure staff position as a senior communications specialist and launched my own firm, Van Ness Communications. Since then I’ve worked with some of the most recognized organizations, telling their stories and helping shape their brands.

Stephanie is one of our ‘go-to’ freelancers when we need to supplement our in-house writing resources. She is an excellent writer — crisp and clear and right to the point. I would recommend her for any writing assignment that requires professional marketing communications expertise.
